There are two kinds of ice vending machine. A bagged ice merchandiser, like the Leer models here, is a freezer that sells bags you load. It needs only a standard outlet and a cellular signal. An ice-making vending machine (the kiosks often called ice houses) makes ice on site and fills bags or the customer's cooler. It also needs a water supply, a drain and usually higher-voltage power and a concrete pad. The 47-inch VM40 holds about 80 ten-pound bags in 40 cubic feet behind one self-locking steel door; the 84-inch VM85 holds about 200 ten-pound bags in 85 cubic feet behind two. Both run on a standard 110–115 V outlet (NEMA 5-15 plug), are rated for indoor or outdoor use, and need a cellular signal for the card reader and remote monitoring.
